Statutory Sick Pay (SSP) Policy
Purpose
This policy sets out Acme Trading Ltd's approach to Statutory Sick Pay (SSP) in accordance with the Employment Rights Act 2025 and the Statutory Sick Pay (General) Regulations 1982 (as amended).
1. Entitlement
All employees are entitled to SSP from the first day of illness, subject to satisfying the qualifying conditions. The previous rule requiring 3 unpaid "waiting days" was abolished by the Employment Rights Act 2025 with effect from April 2026.
To qualify, an employee must: (a) be classed as an employee for NIC purposes; (b) have average weekly earnings at or above the Lower Earnings Limit (£125/week in 2026/27); and (c) be too ill to work for at least 4 consecutive days including non-working days.
